dia crashes on start

With a freshly installed MacPorts on MacOS 10.7.4 with Xcode 4.3.2, do

  > sudo port install dia

then launch

  > dia

A window appears for a short while before the program crashes with

Segmentation fault: 11

Running it with gdb gives
