    33It sounds like gtk has somehow been built without PNG load support, I don't know how that could happen.

     5edit: I used xquartz, installed macports, and typed "port install nip2", if that could make a difference.

     7I could commit the change and close the two tickets, it's a big improvement on the current state of things. We can resolve the png load failure in a new ticket.
