    3 But I guess who cares? People can just sort it out themselves.

    5 In due course, I will move these systems up to gcc11 anyway, and then nobody will care about gcc8.
     3But it's fine. So long as mpich-default works everywhere, I think all will be well. For me, mostly it's for Octave, which presently runs on all our supported systems, and I'm trying not to lose that one important feature during this purging process.
