  • Ticket #67685 – Description

    initial v1
1 Now we got {{{math}}} tag, however I do not think it makes a good sense to use it for everything remotely related. I would even add more specific tags like {{{bayesian}}} and {{{economics}}}, for example. Say, while both general equilibrium or demand models are still {{{math}}} (and {{{science}}}, FWIW), someone looking for actual math (ex., numerical computations or abstract algebra) may not want to see those, while someone looking for econometrics stuff would prefer not to dig through ports like {{{R-cgal-Meshes}}} or standalone functions for fancy distributions. Using {{{finance}}} is also problematic, there are tons of economics stuff which has nothing to do with finance. Etc.

22Obviously, tags only make sense when there are some number of ports worth having those.

44What everyone thinks? While right now I ask in connection with 3000+ R packages we got now, it is not restricted to R.

6P. S. For R, my idea was to provide a somewhat-full replacement for CRAN, which requires a lot of packages: unfortunately, R folks prefer to make every tiny thing into a separate package, and to have people actually interested to try Macports for R, we should offer what people may look for. (Say, what FreeBSD freshports offers is useless IMO – there are zero reasons why someone may prefer that over just installing from CRAN.)
