Description (last modified by jmpp@…)

I think it would be nice if the pkg-installer supported installtion in other locations than /, a typical alternate installation point would be ~/.

Also, the installation part of the documentation should describe this process (can I just ./configure --prefix=$HOME/ or does this have any negative or weird consequences?)

The pkg installer is designed to be a one click solution to installing MacPorts with a fully default configuration, which includes the default installation location /opt/local/. To install elsewhere you need to resort to the MacPorts sources and configure them to your liking through the configure script flags. Admittedly, our documentation on this is currently in a sorry state and a Wiki entry detailing this procedure would be a great addition. Anyone caring to volunteer...?

PS: You should be OK configuring the MacPorts sources to install to your home dir as prefix.
