MacPorts has an official IRC channel on the Libera.Chat network. Join developers, power users and fellow-travelers in

#macports on Libera.Chat

​Join with an IRC client or ​use Libera.Chat web chat.

Note that the users on IRC are dispersed across multiple timezones around the globe and might have day jobs, so don't get frustrated and leave if nobody answers right away. Hanging around and waiting a couple of hours will usually get you an answer. And if it doesn't, there still are our mailing lists.
