Description (last modified by tobypeterson)

Hi,

Im running 10.6.1 - just completed a fresh install of Xcode from the Snow Leopard install disk and also the version of x11 that is included with Snow Leopard.

When I attempt to run the package installer for the latest version of MacPorts, it "checks to see if the software can be installed on my system" and then pops up with an error stating "MacPorts-1.8.0 can't be installed on this computer." "The specified message could not be found for the index 17."

I couldn't find anything in the ticket database related to something this elementary - so im at a loss.

Does the file /opt/local/etc/ports/dp_version exist on your system?

Sounds like you're using a beta or rc package for the wrong OS version (there was a problem with InstallationCheck.strings that was fixed in the final release).

Actually, I just checked, and the file was apparently not fixed in the Snow Leopard dmg. But it's still only a problem with the error message when you're installing the wrong package for your OS version, or installing over a MacPorts version older than 1.5.

I may have an older version of MacPorts installed now that I think about it. The last time I was using it - it was still "Darwinports". So im assuming i need to blast away any trace of an old macports version first?

Since you updated to 10.6, see the Migration page.

Yes, you'll need to remove the old install first as per FAQ. The error message in the installer is meant to tell you to install 1.7.1 first (which still had the code to migrate from the old DarwinPorts layout), but 1.8.0 is the first version to be compatible with Snow Leopard.
