mtr crashes my mac

Description
mtr immediately crashes my mac. had 0.69, upgraded to 0.72, both the same, machine freezes instantly.
os is 10.4.8. (ibook g4)

If it locks up the whole machine then it's Apple's bug. Any improvement with newer OS updates?
