BitchX build fails with ncurses installed — at Initial Version

Description
BitchX does not build successfully when ncurses is installed, but seems fine otherwise. The specific error is:
In file included from alias.c:36: /opt/local/var/db/dports/build/_opt_local_var_db_dports_sources_rsync.rsync.darwinports.org_dpupdate_dports_irc_bitchx/work/BitchX/include/ircterm.h:19:31: error: ncurses/termcap.h: No such file or directory
even though /opt/local/include/ncurses/termcap.h is there, and is detected in the configure phase.
