Are you sure this wasn't fixed by r32359? It installs fine for me now.

I think that this bug depends on a certain sequence of events. I have had it install correctly on a clean install of Macports and I was able to get it to fail using the same process that I originally encountered.

I think it has to do with what version of docbook-xml are already installed prior to installing xmlto. Since xmlto depends on version 4.2 and there is already a 4.5 ... I think the time it worked, something else had already installed a newer version of docbook.

Sorry that I cannot recall the what port I was installing when it worked.

I have a similar problem. I am using MacPorts 1.6, xmlto 0.0.18.

I have an XML DocBook file with the following header:

<!DOCTYPE article PUBLIC "-//OASIS//DTD DocBook XML V4.2//EN"
        "http://www.oasis-open.org/docbook/xml/4.2/docbookx.dtd" [
        <!ENTITY % iso-pub PUBLIC "ISO 8879:1986//ENTITIES Publishing//EN//XML"
                "http://www.oasis-open.org/docbook/xmlcharent/0.3/iso-pub.ent">
        ]>

When I try to process this using xmlto, I get:

$ xmlto pdf asterisk-ldap-wmp-en-r1.0.xml
I/O error : Attempt to load network entity http://docbook.sourceforge.net/release/xsl/current/fo/docbook.xsl
warning: failed to load external entity "http://docbook.sourceforge.net/release/xsl/current/fo/docbook.xsl"
cannot parse http://docbook.sourceforge.net/release/xsl/current/fo/docbook.xsl

warning: failed to load external entity "http://docbook.sourceforge.net/release/xsl/current/fo/docbook.xsl"

The some command / XML file works fine when I execute it on Fedora 9 using 0.0.20.

xmlto was updated to 0.0.21 and patched to use MacPorts' XML catalog when not told to use another, in r40977. Let me know if that fixes things.
