To make sure that the installation of a port yields to the same set of files, the best is to satisfy all dependencies for libraries that exist within Darwinports. I have modified the portfile to get camlimages to successfully use lablgtk, lablgtk2 and lablgl. I also added a dependency to gdk-pixbuf.
