pkgconfig activation failure

Reported by: wainwright_steve@… Owned by: ryandesign (Ryan Carsten Schmidt)
Priority: Normal Milestone:
Component: ports Version: 1.8.0
Keywords: Cc:
Port: pkgconfig

Description (last modified by jmroot (Joshua Root))

It seems my system with it's present settings is unable to install gtk2

sudo port install gtk2 +x11 +universal does install the following:
The following ports are currently installed:
  autoconf @2.65_1 (active)
  automake @1.11.1_0+universal (active)
  expat @2.0.1_0+universal (active)
  gettext @0.17_4+universal (active)
  gperf @3.0.4_0+universal (active)
  help2man @1.37.1_1+universal (active)
  libiconv @1.13.1_0+universal (active)
  libtool @2.2.6b_1+darwin+universal (active)
  m4 @1.4.14_0+universal (active)
  ncurses @5.7_0+darwin_10+universal (active)
  ncursesw @5.7_0+darwin_10+universal (active)
  p5-locale-gettext @1.05_2+universal (active)
  perl5 @5.8.9_0 (active)
  perl5.8 @5.8.9_3+universal (active)
  pkgconfig @0.23_1+universal

however finally fails. Where am I going wrong? I've uninstalled all ports and tried to reinstall to no avail. XCode 3.2.1 and X11(XQuartz 2.3.4 (xorg-server 1.4.2-apple45)) are installed on my system.

Port: pkgconfig added
Summary: sudo port install gtk2pkgconfig activation failure

Please remember to preview and use WikiFormatting, fill in the Port field, and cc the maintainer.

While it's probably not related to this problem, you should run selfupdate to get the current version of MacPorts.

sudo port install pkgconfig installs on my system. So why has my subject title been changed? Selfupdate has been done many times

The log you provided shows pkgconfig could not activate. Therefore Joshua changed the title of the ticket to indicate that.

Activation failures have been occurring so frequently lately for no discernible reason, I'm going to write up a FAQ entry or something.

And Joshua suggested you run selfupdate because you indicated you were using MacPorts 1.8.0 while MacPorts 1.8.2 was released at the beginning of the year.

The error reporting for this case was fixed in r64007. Reopen if you can still reproduce and the error output shows that there's actually a bug (as opposed to there being conflicting files in the way or something).

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
