If jasper was not built with the universal variant then upgrading gdk-pixbuf2 fails. Just doing sudo port install jasper +universal then allows an upgrade of gdk-pixbuf2 to work.

I just had gdk-pixbuf2 fail with a jasper problem despite having jasper installed (non-universal). On a whim I uninstalled jasper (forced) and then reinstalled it (it fetched the binary archive). Then I ran "port upgrade -u outdated" again, and it automatically installed jasper with the universal variant. Mysterious. But it worked...
