Please remember to cc the maintainer.

Read the MisbehavingServers page and take appropriate action as it describes. If you can't figure out what the problem is in this case, attach the HTML file.

I also got this issue, for the first time, last night (and again this morning).

How can you find the HTML file? The log file doesn't contain the HTML nor the download URL, and I can't find a port command (tried "info") that shows the download URL. I realize that I need to give more information to help explain this error - but I need a little prod in the right direction please :).

Thanks!

It will be in your distfiles directory, usually /opt/local/var/macports/distfiles. Take a look at the file python/numpy-1.6.0.tar.gz in this directory, I imagine it'll be some sort of error from the sourceforge mirror system.

comment:4 Changed 13 years ago by BjarneDMat

this is caused by sourceforge using round-robin servers and redirection on the download pages in order to be able to count the number of downloads from each server.

in curl you can set options to fix this : -L/--location and --max-redirs

What does port use to download source files with ?

Thanks ram - you were totally correct. Unfortunately, the HTML page is not helpful, though I think we already know that sourceforge is up to something strange:

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/1999/REC-html401-19991224/strict.dtd">
<!-- <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN"
"http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd"> -->
<HTML>
<HEAD>
<META HTTP-EQUIV="Refresh" CONTENT="0.1">
<META HTTP-EQUIV="Pragma" CONTENT="no-cache">
<META HTTP-EQUIV="Expires" CONTENT="-1">
<TITLE></TITLE>
</HEAD>
<BODY><P></BODY>
</HTML>

Is there a way to work-around this?

Thanks!

comment:6 Changed 13 years ago by tun.buynsell@…

I didn't see the html file on the /opt/local/var/macports/distfiles/python/numpy-1.6.0.tar.gz. I tried gunzipping it and it says that it's not in the gzip format. Any suggestions?

comment:7 Changed 13 years ago by tun.buynsell@…

I tried the tar -xvfz as well to no avail... =( I looked at the file and it's only 415 kb, which is very tiny compared to other file in that same directory.

You can download the file from one of our mirrors until sourceforge gets their act together. Run port distfiles py27-numpy to see the local path where the distfile should be stored and a list of possible download URLs.

Replying to jmr@…:

This solves the problem! Thanks a bunch on all your help!
