xml2 fails to build under OSX 10.8 because libxml fails to build

Ticket re-opened per request from MacPorts as libxml is not supposed to depend upon libxml - however it does. 'main.log' file attached. Console log states:

I'm confused. Are you talking about the xml2 port or the libxml2 port?

Your output is for attempting to build the "xml2" port which does indeed depend on "libxml". If you are wanting this to work then post the main.log for libxml. "libxml2" is a different port with different dependencies - not including "libxml".

Aagh. I had not appreciated the existence of both 'xml2' and 'libxml2' as totally different entities. Yes, you are correct, this is an 'xml2' port issue, due to 'libxml' not being able to be built, due in turn to bug report #37712.
