In the future, please Cc the port maintainer(s).

Is there some reason this is a new variant? Why not simply add this to the existing ssl variant?

Actually, SPDY have been integrated in the NGiNX 1.4 core but is already a draft patch, so you may want SSL on your NGiNX server without SPDY (but SPDY requires SSL).
