MOV/MP4 files from kdenlive not recognized by OS X viewers

Description
MOV or MP4 files produced by kdenlive are not recognized as videos by Finder and won't play with SimpleMovieX or Quicktime. They will play with Windows Media player and I can use DVDVideoSoft to read in the MOV file and re-write it as an MP4, which is then recognized by OS X tools. So it seems the video/audio content is valid.

Sorry, but I do not address functionality related bugs here. You need to use kdenlive.org for that. I only address MacPorts-related build bugs here.
