Description
Included autogen.sh script invokes mm-common-prepare. Build fails when this tool is not present. After manually installing mm-common, the build goes through.

mm-common has been a build dependency since at least version 2.38.0.
$ port deps glibmm Full Name: glibmm @2.40.0_0 Extract Dependencies: xz Build Dependencies: pkgconfig, autoconf, automake, libtool, mm-common Library Dependencies: glib2, p5.16-xml-parser, libsigcxx2
