This seems to be the key point :

You would probably have better luck asking the gfortran devs about this (since it's a compiler crash). I don't have access to a PPC machine and the fact that it's so old makes the maintenance burden extremely high. You could try a different gcc variant but other than that I don't have any suggestions.

I have cleaned the port, ran selfupdate and attempted a reinstall with the same results.
