In the future, please use WikiFormatting, fill in the Port field with the port that actually fails to build and Cc that port's maintainers (port info --maintainers py27-appdirs), if any.

It is known that Leopard and Tiger are incapable of fetching files from modern SSL sites. That's #51516.

It's known that we're not automatically mirroring distfiles; that's #53347.

I manually mirrored this distfile.

hello , thanks for these elucidating links. what would i need to do to make the older machine able to cope with https-site? i am willing to learn and contribute and would also pay for getting the machine less obsolete ... if i can manually download these files and compile/build them please share a link where it is best described. again, thanks, and sorry for the noise.

I have several copies of 10.4, 10.5, and 10.6 set up this way, and once set up they download seamlessly from all sites. You need to install macports from source in able to specify a custom libcurl installation you'll be using. It's easy -- takes 5 minutes -- and works well.

I would suggest you go the extra step of installing a second copy of macports into /opt/bootstrap, and after installing curl in there, reference that installation on your main macports installation in /opt/local -- just seems safer.
