Error: Failed to build webkit2-gtk: command execution failed

Reported by: manfredo89 (Manfredo di Porcia e Brugnera) Owned by: jeremyhu (Jeremy Huddleston Sequoia)
Priority: Normal Milestone:
Component: ports Version: 2.4.1
Keywords: Cc: dbevans (David B. Evans), manfredo89 (Manfredo di Porcia e Brugnera)
Port: webkit2-gtk

Description

I've tried multiple times to build webkit2-gtk but even with cleaning and rebuilding from scratch it always fails. The log is 1.3G so I cannot attach it. I will paste the last lines hoping they are enough to understand the problem.

Sorry, there's not enough info here to help you (for me at least). Best to copy the whole log to the desktop, compress it, and upload the entire thing.

What system version are you on, for starters?

comment:4 Changed 7 years ago by manfredo89 (Manfredo di Porcia e Brugnera)

I could try but I see that the limit for the upload is 10 mb. I don't see how a 1.3gb file could be compressed to that size. maybe I can grep some lines...

I have added a longer piece of the log file (tail -n 200000). Hope this is enough. Also I am running on 10.12.6

OK. so the fully-built package is available <http://packages.macports.org/webkit2-gtk/webkit2-gtk-2.14.2_2+gtk2+x11.darwin_16.x86_64.tbz2> on the prebuilt-packages site, so your system should download and install that rather than try to build it.

I suspect you're somehow building it differently, therefore. May I ask what command you're using to try to install it?

comment:7 Changed 7 years ago by manfredo89 (Manfredo di Porcia e Brugnera)

It is most of the times built as a dependencie when I try to install some other port. Like this last time I did

sudo port selfupdate && sudo port upgrade outdated
---> Updating MacPorts base sources using rsync
MacPorts base version 2.4.1 installed,
MacPorts base version 2.4.1 downloaded.
--->  Updating the ports tree
---> MacPorts base is already the latest version

The ports tree has been updated. To upgrade your installed ports, you should run
  port upgrade outdated

But I remember having also cleaned the port and then tried to install it as a standalone; most likely with

sudo port install webkit2-gtk

I am not sure I get how to install the package from the prebuilt version. I downloaded it but should I substitute that into the macports folder or what? Thanks

comment:9 Changed 7 years ago by kencu (Ken)

I wonder if you have some cruft in /opt/local/var/macports/build that is messing you up here. I'd consider cd /opt/local/var/macports/build and delete everything in that directory (only that exact directory!!) before you try again.

MacPorts is meant to download that package for you automatically, but if you already have downloaded it, you can usually skip that step if you put the proper (exactly proper) package into /opt/local/var/macports/incoming/verified. Your variants (+'s and -'s) have to exactly match the downloaded package for this to work.

Thanks a lot, this solved the issue. I tried so many times to rebuild but I never figured out that there was some cached file that I had to remove...

Great news! OK, powers that be -- this one can be closed with a "worksforme".
