In addition, using gsc to convert PS to PDF also does no compression. Converting a 5GB PS file using 9.23 generates a 118MB PDF, converting the same 5GB PS file using 9.24 generates a 5GB PDF.

I opened https://github.com/macports/macports-ports/pull/2535 which seems to fix problem in asymptote. It would be nice to figure out if this also solves the issue with compression.

This same issue seems to arise when trying to install
doxygen +docs.There seems to be an upstream bug report.
