see <​https://github.com/rakshasa/libtorrent/issues/47>. It would appear that v0.13.7 solves this issue, according to that thread.

Can someone please update LibTorrent to 0.13.7 & rTorrent to 0.9.7

so installing it was easy, but there may some odd fixes for various systems to be considered still. 

$ port -v installed libtorrent
The following ports are currently installed:
  libtorrent @0.13.7_0 (active) platform='darwin 10' archs='x86_64' date='2018-10-27T10:27:06-0700'
