Yes, the GitHub handle, that I Cc'ed, would need to be added to the maintainers line.

Not that I know of. What I neglected to do earlier was open a PR to add their GitHub handle, and hopefully confirm (1) whether they are interested in maintaining these ports, and (2) that their contact information in the portfiles is correct. I have now opened a PR for this: https://github.com/macports/macports-ports/pull/4494

Please see the updated description; I had found an alternate email address for this maintainer last used in 2017. Maybe this is recent enough, and that we instead confirm the email addresses used in the Portfiles is still preferred or should be updated.
