In the future, please use WikiFormatting, fill in the Port field and add the port maintainer(s) to Cc (port info --maintainers VLC), if any.

VLC on MacPorts is presently quite broken <https://ports.macports.org/port/VLC/summary>.

You might just uninstall it and use the one from the VLC website for the time being.

I'd happily remove it, I didn't know it was there :)

After the last XCode update from Mac OS Python was broken.

I had to reinstall Python from ports and when I went to reinstall py38-pip VLC "decided" to rebuild itself.

So it's no big deal, just thought I should report it.

Thanks, I will remove VLC.

Replying to jwoehr:

I had to reinstall Python from ports and when I went to reinstall py38-pip VLC "decided" to rebuild itself.

That's due to the rev-upgrade feature, which detects broken ports and attempts to rebuild them. It automatically runs after every port installation and doesn't restrict itself to checking things that depend on what you just upgraded (since missing dependencies are one reason why a port might be broken).
