#65800 closed defect (fixed)

grep: Perl matching not supported in a --disable-perl-regexp build

Reported by: ShadSterling (Shad Sterling) Owned by: Schamschula (Marius Schamschula)

Component: ports Version: 2.7.2

Port: grep

Description

Updated from grep @3.7_2 to grep @3.8_0 and now some of my scripts and cronjobs are failing with

grep: Perl matching not supported in a --disable-perl-regexp build

GNU compatibility is a large part of why I use MacPorts; this departure is surprising

Was this intentionally removed? And intentionally not made available with a variant?

Grep 3.8 now needs pcre2, but the dependency in the port was left as pcre.
