port 2.8.1 and tcsh do not interact correctly on Monterey

Trying to find out which port provides particular files I get on command line in tcsh:

root 354 /\  port provides /opt/local/share/info/gawk.i
cat        contents   dependents deps       distfiles  file       help       info       list       notes      provides   variants   version    

The file name is not completed although I am using one of the listed verbs (which the search function in Safari confirms). My working directory is /opt/local/share/info.
