@essandess has an open PR, which updates this port to 1.56.2. (Though it's dependent on one or more other PRs.)

Steve, would you be interested in updating that for 1.57.0, assuming the latest release doesn't include any unexpected gotchas?

Upstream is now pulling in protobuf 26.1.

I guess this is why, in PR 19665, grpc was made to fetch its own protobuf followed by a post-destroot clean up step to remove files that conflict with a macports-installed-version of protobuf.

I'm currently trying to bring protobuf to this version to revive PR 21170. Maybe this will allow using macports own protobuf instead of one that conflicts with it.

I don't quite understand in which sense above mentioned PR 19665 is dependent on the tensorflow port though.
