#70401 new defect

gtk-based apps on legacy systems (or powerpc?): binaries work when launched directly, but not via .app bundle wrapper

Description

I have seen the same issue earlier with some ports, and now faced it with gtkwave. MacPorts installs an app bundle wrapper, which contains a simple symlink. However, it crashes on launch. However, launching binary directly from terminal works fine, and GTK GUI starts normally.

An obvious, but perhaps suboptimal solution is to avoid bundle wrappers for ppc or, possibly, legacy OS in general. A simpler, but inelegant will be to display a notice to a user, advising the way which works.

It is desirable to find some fix, since otherwise an impression is that apps are just broken, but it is not the case.
