Ok, this submission is now 6 months old... I have updated the repo to 5.5.17... all works. Is there a reason this isn't being pulled in?

The mariadb port recently added to MacPorts will conflict with this port #29169.
This port along with the mysql and mariadb ports should have conflicts added.

Updated Portfile with mariadb conflict.

I also posted a new mysql5-devel portfile to the mysql latest thread which has the mariadb conflict.

Can we get this included? We've recently moved to percona 5.5 up at work and it would be nice to have all of our developers move to 5.5 via ports. It looks like it's been pending for quite a while...

After uninstalling mysql5 and mysql5-server and backing up /opt/local/var/db/mysql5, I installed percona-devel and percona-server-devel and am able to connect to my existing mysql5 databases. My php5/mysql5 web apps seem to be functioning as expect. Percona feels a bit faster then mysql 5.3.6 using unix socket. Haven't tested tcp connections.
