MacPorts-2.6.3 fails to build on macOS 11.1 Big Sur

Description

Trying to migrate MacPorts installation after upgrading to macOS 11.0..1. As no pkg for Big Sur is available I tried installing from source. After running xcode-select --install and xcodebuild --license, I downloaded MacPorts sources, unpacked and switched into director, I ran ./configure which reported no errors.

Running make, however, returned the following errors.

clang -c -DUSE_TCL_STUBS -g -O2 -std=c99 -Wextra -Wall -pedantic -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I/Users/CaptProton/MacPorts-2.6.3/src -I/Users/CaptProton/MacPorts-2.6.3/src -I. -I/Users/CaptProton/MacPorts-2.6.3/vendor/vendor-destroot/opt/local/libexec/macports/include -D_XOPEN_SOURCE=600 -fno-common sqlext.c -o sqlext.o

I also got a failure in compiling the MacPorts-2.6.3 on Big Sur with the following traceback. I used the GCC compiler instead. Configuration went smooth.

gcc (MacPorts gcc10 10.2.0_1) 10.2.0

Can confirm build failure with macOS Big Sur and 2.6.3. Although the most recent git version compiles fine.

Yes. Install from the tip of the release-2.6 branch if you are running Big Sur. This was fixed in [a7120242be5bf28a57b1aab7a5aa9a543aa9df96/macports-base].

You need Xcode 12.2 on Big Sur.

Thank you. I thought the update to Xcode that ran after OS upgrade brought it up to 12.2. Apparently, it didn't. Getting Xcode 12.2 + using the MacPorts-2.6.4 branch from Github worked.
